Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is the use of alternative means of communication for children and adults with extremely limited oral communication skills.  AAC systems can be low-technology, such as picture communication books or message boards that do not use electronic instruments or high technology, such as computers and commercially available devices. Users of AAC devices vary and may include individuals with autism, aphasia, apraxia, cerebral palsy, brain injuries and others.
